4 c. peeled, sliced peaches

2 c. sugar, divided

1/2 c. water

8 TB butter (1 stick)

1 1/2 c. self-rising flour

1 1/2 c. milk

ground cinnamon (optional)

Preheat oven to 350°.

Combine the peaches, 1 cup of the sugar, and the water in a saucepan. Mix well.

Bring to a boiland simmer for 10 minutes, then remove from the heat.

Put the butter in a 3-quart baking dish, and place it in the oven to melt.

Mix the remaining cup of sugar, the flour, and the milk slowly (to prevent clumping). Pour this mixture over the melted butter. Do not stir.

Spoon the fruit on top, and gently pour in the syrup.

Sprinkle the top with ground cinnamon, if using.

To serve, scoop onto a plate and serve with your choice of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
