Corn Bread

 1 c cornmeal

1 c flour

1 c milk

3/4 tsp salt

1 egg

3 tsp baking powder

1/4 c melted shortening


Preheat oven to 400°F with your cast iron skillet in the oven.

Mix together dry ingredients. 

Beat egg and milk together.

Add wet to dry ingredients, stirring just enough to moisten. Then add melted shortening to the batter. 

Pour batter into hot pan. 

Bake at  30-35 minutes. 

Serve hot.
